Tasty Meals out in Brighton

Brighton is a cosmopolitan city by the sea, bustling with an eclectic mix of people. In the summer the beaches are flooded with tourists, dog walkers, hippies and students as everyone flocks to the pebbled pier.

The quirky lanes and North Laine are a famous shopping destination for unique, vintage and independent shops. There are loads of lovely cafes and bars here and Brighton is a hot spot for scrumptious foods of all cuisines. Here are a few of our favorite and top places to visit.

Indian

If you are in the mood for a curry then Brighton has a great selection of restaurants to choose from.

The Chilli Pickle is a favourite of mine. With its street inspired dishes and stylish interiors, it is a fab dinner after work venue, or a for a weekend catch up with friends.

The masala dosa is my go to on the menu and is absolutely massive so you don't need to order any sides!

If you are looking for a more casual vibe then the Curry Leaf Cafe is the place for you. The rustic decor gives the restaurant a cosy and homely feel and you can even grab something on the move from their kiosk at Brighton station!

The food is described as a mix of 'classic and fusion South Indian dishes' and it is definitely worth a visit. But be aware they are very generous with the spice! I chose a mild curry and yes I clearly have a very low spice threshold, I would not have called it mild by any means and was downing water throughout the meal!

Vegetarian and Vegan

Food for Friends is a must visit for anyone. Brighton's award winning and original vegetarian restaurant offers stunning taste combinations with beautifully arranged plates. It is a lovely evening out for everyone not just veggies.

For vegan pizza, Purezza is the place to go, with its funky artificial grass ceiling, the small independent pizzeria is hidden away on the outskirts of Kemp Town, in St James' Street.

The sourdough pizza base is exquisite and plant based mozzarella is a close match for the real deal, and would fool even the meatiest of all eaters. Try the pesto pizza, the pesto and hummus base is a great twist on classic tomato.

Rootcandi. I have been meaning to go here since it opened last summer and it is on my to eat list. Inspired by pan-Asian food, the vegan street food is a mouth watering taste sensation of dishes. Their bao buns are the recommended option and courgette fries are a yummy and healthy alternative to chips.

Meaty Eateries

As a recent vegan turned carnivore, I am exploring the world of meat after 12 years without. Brighton may be a liberal vegan haven, but there are still a fair share of restaurants where tofu and falafel are a bewildering and unknown phenomenon.

The Salt Room is a 'modern British restaurant for seafood and grilled meat in a chic space with sea views and terrace.'

They serve a range of fish from the traditonal (yet fancy) cod and chips, to more exotic types you've never heard of. (Image from FashionBite)

A pricey option but worth it as treat now and then or for a special occasion.

I have been told to try out The Coal Shed, it is the sister restaurant to the salt room and specialises in steak dishes. It has even been named as one of the best restaurants in the UK by the prestgious Oberver Food Monthly awards!

Steak doesn't really float my boat but if it is your thing then The Coal Shed is the finest so if you fancy a taste of the best then book a table and try it for yourself!
